Trail Stewardship

Trail Stewardship

Lend a hand to support your trails.

From Maine to New Jersey, AMC cares for some of the Northeast’s most iconic trails—more than 1,800 miles in total. And we can’t do it without you. Every year, our staff works alongside thousands of volunteers to maintain and build trails. By joining one of our trail crews, you combine your passions of being outdoors and contributing to the protection of the environment. You can always contribute to our Trails Fund here.

Volunteer Vacations and Work Days

Volunteer Vacations provide a unique opportunity to revitalize and build trails, engage in conservation activities, and work alongside fellow outdoor enthusiasts. Spend a day, a weekend, or even a full week with AMC's volunteer vacations to experience the beauty of nature in scenic locations and feel a great sense of accomplishment.

Custom Trail Crews

Design a custom crew that will meet the expectations of your group. Projects range from one day to multiple day options and can be incorporated into a backpacking trip or another outdoor adventure so you can give back to the very trails you are hiking.

Adopt-A-Trail

AMC’s Adopt-A-Trail program enables volunteers to become a steward of a trail section and oversee basic maintenance. Choose from a list of available trails where you'll have the opportunity to check on its condition, clear drainage structures, cut back vegetation, and dig into small projects to improve and restore your designated section.
