Support self-determination for the Wabanaki people in Maine
The Wabanaki people have cared for the land, water, and wildlife in Maine for 10,000 years. But those tribes have a legal status different than all other tribes across the country, which limits their ability to steward the places that are central to their culture and identity. Join AMC in supporting legislation in the Maine legislature to establish that three federally recognized tribes enjoy the same “rights, privileges, powers, duties and immunities” as all 570 other federally recognized tribes in the United States.
Take ActionSolutions for Clean and Equitable Transportation
Transportation emissions are now our region’s largest cumulative source of greenhouse gas emissions and a significant source of smog and soot, contributing to the climate crisis that’s already causing shorter winters and more intense storms. Each part of the region faces different transportation challenges, but we’re all affected by deficiencies in the system, health concerns from pollution, and economic disparities. Please ask your governor to prioritize investments in modernized, equitable transportation systems.
Take ActionClean Air for All
The Biden Administration has set out some important goals around climate and environmental justice that align with AMC’s conservation policies, and now we want to offer some emphasis on issues we see as priorities at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). We appreciate that there is much for EPA to do to fix the harm to the outdoors and our natural world from the last four years of air quality rollbacks.
Take ActionState Conservation Funding
The programs and people dedicated to conservation in your state ensure the region’s outdoor resources are managed responsibly. They also work to make them accessible and welcoming to everyone. Tell your state senator and representative that trail development and maintenance, parks and forest management, and land conservation are essential and require robust funding for both projects and the state agencies dedicated to these activities.

Known as ‘30 by 30,’ this inclusive and bold vision for building climate resilience and preserving biodiversity by safeguarding America’s lands, waters, and wildlife habitat supports the efforts of everyone actively involved in conserving, stewarding, restoring, using, and enjoying nature.
